Arriving at Gatwick airport
With such high traffic moving through Gatwick, it's natural for the airport to have access to extensive transportation options for each of these travelers. Whether visitors intend to stick around London itself or move further into the country, knowing the basic transportation choices available can make the experience much easier, more enjoyable, and more affordable as a whole.

Roadways

Many people traveling through Gatwick make arrangements for local friends or family to meet them at the airport, and often end up traveling by vehicle then using a Gatwick car parking service. Similarly, some opt to hire a car for their use while staying in Britain, and will need to know what roads to take.

Gatwick is accessed by a spur road off the M23 motorway via a junction. The M23 then connects to London's orbital motorway, the M25, which grants access to Greater London and the southeast of the country. Other local roads also access the airport, providing access to nearby towns. The A23 provides northern access through Horley and Redhill, and southern access to Crawley and Brighton, for example. As a side note, parking at Gatwick tends to fill up quickly during the summer, so travelers intending to rely on motorway transit should take care to plan ahead.

Mass Transit

As are most airports, Gatwick is a hub of mass transportation options for the interested traveler. Gatwick's leadership have set a goal that 40% of their passengers will be using public transport by approximately 2015, ensuring a steady commitment to developing alternative means of travel.

Bus and Coach

There are a variety of long and short distance bus services available through Gatwick. National Express Coaches offers access to Stanstead and Heathrow airports, as well as many major cities across Great Britain. Those headed to Oxford can gain a ride through the Oxford Bus Company, while those looking for access to London itself ,and London Victoria station in particular, can get a ride on EasyBus.

Local bus companies also operate in the area, providing access to the nearby towns such as Crawley, Redhill and Horsham. Local companies include Metrobus and the rapid-transit Fastway.

Bus and coach options can be reached from either the north or south terminal, with signage and directions to particular companies easily available.

Rail

Perhaps most convenient of all is the fact that Gatwick Airport has its own dedicated rail station. This station is accessed from the south terminal, and provides immediate, easy access to London's railways. In particular it connects to the Brighton Main Line, with access to London Victoria Station and London Bridge Station. Further, it also provides access to routes heading Brighton and Worthing. Companies providing train transit include Gatwick Express, Southern, Capital Connect, and First Great Western.

Whatever means of transport you may choose while traveling through Gatwick, there are many options available. The ones we've mentioned don't even touch on the more esoteric options, such as the full-service, no traffic cycle route. Be assured that for every style of travel, Gatwick has a solution.
